Prof. Matin
Board MemberSaboor Matin Dr Abdul Saboor Matin is currently a Research Fellow at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), where he is engaged in socio-legal studies and collaborates with the Advice and Resolution Centre. He has completed the teaching qualification – Semi Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice (Associate Programme) and works as a Personal Tutor for final-year undergraduate law students. Dr Matin is also an accredited mediator, engaging closely with the UCLan Centre for Mediation. In his professional career, Dr Matin has achieved notable success. He delivered a presentation at the University of Portsmouth Socio-Legal Studies Association SLSA Annual Conference 2024 Forced Migrants plenary and completed a research programme with the World Bank on essentials for reproducible research. Additionally, he attended the Global Young Academy Professional Development Training at Wolfson College, University of Oxford. Previously, Dr Matin served as Deputy Dean and Law Lecturer at Herat University in Afghanistan. He has a wealth of experience in developing legal curricula and providing legal education in Commercial Law, Law of Contracts, Obligations, and Property Law. As a qualified solicitor and member of the Afghanistan Bar Association, he has practiced business law and trained future legal professionals. Hewad Shabnam
Head of ResearchShabnam Hewad is an assistant professor at Herat University, specializing in public law within the Law and Political Science Faculty. Hewad has extensive experience in both academia and project management. She has served as a Project Coordinator for the Herat University Legal Clinic (HULC) in collaboration with UNDP, where she managed staff, budgets, and various legal empowerment initiatives. Her role involved organising workshops, trainings, moot courts, advocacy campaigns, and providing legal aid and public legal awareness to vulnerable individuals in Herat. Her academic journey includes significant teaching and research contributions, having taught public law subjects, conducted research, and published articles. Hewad’s research focuses on human rights, constitutionalism, constitutional judgment, and the use of force in international law. She has also been involved in legal writing courses and clinical legal education, enhancing her skills in legal document preparation, client interviews, and defence research. Shabnam is multilingual, with fluency in English, Persian, Pashto, and advanced proficiency in Turkish.
